About Laurence
Laurence has spent his career listening to people, understanding their concerns, and helping communities have their voices heard.
After immigrating to Canada in 2003, Laurence graduated from York University with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and began a career in media. Since 2008, he has worked in television and radio as a reporter, anchor, and program host, developing strong skills in communication, policy analysis, and connecting with diverse audiences.
Since 2018, Laurence has been proud to call Markham home. As a resident, he has experienced firsthand the opportunities and challenges that come with living in one of Canada’s most diverse and dynamic communities.
For the past two years, Laurence has hosted “People’s Voice,” a current affairs program focused on government policies, community issues, and the concerns that matter most to residents. Through countless conversations with listeners, he has learned that effective public service begins with listening.
Beyond media, Laurence has been actively involved in community service. He has served as an ambassador for Mon Sheong Foundation, volunteered with Cherish Integrated Services since its establishment, and contributed to various community initiatives supporting seniors, youth, and families.
As a proud member of Markham’s diverse community, Laurence has also worked to promote cultural understanding through events such as the City of Markham’s Chinese Heritage Month celebrations.
Now, Laurence is ready to bring his experience, dedication, and commitment to listening directly to City Hall — working with residents to build a stronger, more inclusive Markham.
Why I am running
For many years, I have been fortunate to have a microphone in my hand — giving people a platform to share their stories, concerns, and hopes for their communities.
After immigrating to Canada in 2003 and making Markham my home since 2018, I have seen how this community continues to grow and evolve. Markham is a place where people from different backgrounds come together, build families, pursue opportunities, and contribute to a shared future.
Through my work in television and radio, especially hosting “People’s Voice,” I have spoken with residents about the issues affecting their daily lives: the challenges facing families, the needs of seniors, the opportunities for young people, and the changes they want to see in their communities.
But listening is only the beginning.
Every conversation has reminded me that communities need more than someone who hears their concerns — they need someone who can bring those voices forward, work through solutions, and help turn ideas into action.
That is why I am running for City Councillor.
I believe the role of a councillor is not only to make decisions, but also to understand the people behind those decisions — to listen carefully, communicate clearly, and ensure residents’ voices are represented at City Hall.
My journey as an immigrant, a media professional, a Markham resident, and a community volunteer has shaped my belief that a stronger community is built when everyone feels heard, respected, and included.
Markham is my home. I want to serve this community in a more direct way and work together with you to build a city that continues to be welcoming, vibrant, and a great place to live, work, and raise our families.
