The Honourable Victor Oh Endorsement of Laurence Liang
I am pleased to endorse Laurence Liang as a candidate for Markham City Council in Ward 5.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet Laurence at numerous community and charitable events, where I have personally witnessed his genuine commitment to giving back and serving our community.
Laurence is someone who does not simply talk about community service—he consistently shows up, gets involved and contributes. His years of work in media have also given him a unique ability to listen to people, understand different perspectives and bring communities together.
I believe Laurence will bring the same dedication, compassion and commitment to public service to City Council. He understands that effective leadership begins with listening and that serving residents means being accessible, responsive and willing to help.
I am proud to support Laurence Liang and wish him every success in his campaign for Markham City Council, Ward 5.

A seasoned broadcaster has decided to serve Markham in a different way. Laurence Liang is a familiar face on Fairchild Television for ten years as a reporter and anchor. Besides that, he was the voice on Radio 1430 for eighteen years. It was evident that his adult life had been devoted to serving his audience through radio and television. His programme involved the audience because they were invited to call in. Through his work, he became the “People’s Voice”.
Through audience participation, he was able to understand their concerns. Moving forward, he wants to be more proactive with the community. As a City Councillor, he will be able to move into action and actually help to resolve the issues the residents are concerned about. He feels that the Councillor’s job is likened to a bridge between local Government and the residents. He also believes that it will give him the opportunity to broaden the constituents’ outlook on many aspects of everyday life.
He has plans to be a “Hands-on” councillor which means a different approach when he is elected. Rather than waiting for issues to emerge, he will be proactive – through listening and engaging. In other words, he will be dealing with an issue before it becomes full-blown. He will be present and vigilant for his constituents. A case in point is the importance of crime prevention: he will actively promote the Neighbourhood Watch initiative in his ward, so burglars will think twice before attempting their criminal activities there.
I think Laurence has great plans, ideas and aspiration as a Councillor. With the skills and knowledge which he has accumulated throughout decades of experience as a broadcaster, Laurence will be a great choice for Council.
